Various philosophical and religious traditions have revered and upraised a culture of truth for over 1000 years. Truthfulness was once a part of God’s essence, a foundational virtue, and a way to elevate oneself as a noble and transformative endeavor. At its worst, it was considered fundamental for peace, justice, and cohesion — the pillars of a harmonious human society.
The enduring importance of truthfulness underscores its fundamental role in human relationships, society, and science. It is a beacon that guides ethical conduct, fosters trust, and nurtures growth. From ancient philosophers pondering moral ideals to moral dilemmas of the modern world, truthfulness should endure as a timeless and invaluable virtue.
However, its culture seems to be fading away. This erosion of truth only brings confusion and distrust, destabilizing the very foundations of societal harmony. Yet, today, we witness prominent figures increasingly lying with impunity, making us wonder whether being truthful still has value. Personally, a particular election in 2016 was the culmination of the disrespect for truth and perhaps marked the end of its culture.
Polistoria’s Culture of Truth means to call out to those in question to remind everyone that being truthful still has value, is cherished, and, above all, is needed.
