Dataism is a contemporary philosophical and cultural movement that places a significant emphasis on the value of data in understanding and shaping the world. At its core, it suggests that information should be the primary lens through which we comprehend reality. Thus, the more data we accumulate, the better. Even though we will never think about ourselves as mere algorithms, that won’t prevent other forces from viewing us as such — and the problem is they’ve already been successful in knowing and manipulating us.
Urged to become data, to reduce human experience to quantifiable data points — risking to lose our privacy and individuality in the process — we must instead find the ineffable place within, inaccessible to the data flow, realized only by the human mind, and never lose faith that such a place exists.
